What are the types of Abdominal Pain? 

 

Gastroenterologist divides the abdomen into nine parts. It consists of three parts: upper, middle and lower. Each division consists of 3 parts. There are seven types of pain : 

 

Uncomfortable bloating : The possible cause of this is excess gas. This can be due to certain food items like beverages, specially carbonated drinks. This pain is usually not serious and can be dealt with easily. You can even use over-the-counter drugs to cure this problem. Sharp pain in the lower side of the abdomen: The most possible cause of this is appendicitis. This pain might be unbearable at some point of time. Earlier it was believed that appendix is a vestigial organ and is not of human use. Later it was found that it is the host of many other good bacteria which are really useful for humans. But in case of appendicitis it builds up inside and there is a burst of it in the abdomen. This causes serious complications in the abdomen.

General Abdominal Pain with diarrhoea : The possible cause is gastroenteritis. Consult a general physician or gastroenterologist. This means there is gastrointestinal tract inflammation, usually infecting the tract and stomach. 

 

General Abdominal Pain with bloating : The possible cause is irritable bowel syndrome. This includes both constipation and diarrhoea. It is important to understand the occurrence of the same. There is no particular treatment for irritable bowel syndrome. The only way is to reduce the symptoms. 

 

Pain with bloody diarrhoea :  This includes Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. These are types of irritable bowel disease. This can cause abdominal pain and bleeding. Irritable bowel disease does not have any symptoms and no proper treatment. 

 

Abdominal Pain in women : This main cause of the pain is periods. This is a cramp pain in the lower abdomen. This is due to the breaking of the endometrium and bleeding. If this occurs too frequently around the pelvic region, this could be due to ovarian cancer. Talk to your gynaecologist or general physician about the same.
